By This entire scene of the four horsemen written by Apostles John is a continuation of his vision in chapter 5. When John cried knowing no one is worthy to open the scroll in heaven and on earth, he then was comforted upon by the truth that only the Lamb that was slain ; the Lion of the tribe of Judah Jesus is able and worthy to do so. The opening of the first four seals and the releasing of the four horsemen of the apocalypse give them the authority to carry out the judgement appointed to each of them and power was given to them. This embody the start of the birth pains tribulation experience of humankind. Right now today in this time it’s the Sovereignty and the Omnipotent of God by the presence of the Holy Spirit that’s holding back these riders and their ability to inflict in full on this world which is contingent to God on giving them permission and authority to do so.
The entire Biblical narratives is full of super natural; of God moving and intervening in the affairs of men. The entire Revelation of Jesus that was given to apostle John is incredibly super natural and also very real. John literally saw a door open from heaven and heard a voice saying “come up here” as he moves to that door he was transported to the very throne of heaven. The four horsemen are very real spiritual beings that are given authority and power by God during the tribulation. They just not represent various forms of judgement but living embodiment of this judgement. These horsemen will release and orchestrate these things in unprecedented and incredible super natural measure.
The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse:
The first rider of a white horse has no authority until he was given a crown and a bow. An incredible massive paradox how an anti christ rises into power in a 3 and half years of the tribulation. The Rider of the Red Horse:
“And when he opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, Come. And another horse came forth, a red horse: and to him that sat thereon it was given to take peace from the earth, and that they should slay one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.” Revelation 6:3-4 ASV
The 3 next horsemen represent terrible warfare, great famine, death & devastation. When the second seal was opened a Red Horse emerged. The rider was given a sword and the ability to take PEACE on earth, it causes war to erupt in the world. . The deeper look of the words of “KILL” and “SLAY” in Greek it carries much darker implication of to “ SLAUGHTER “ or “BUTCHER”. Red–the color of blood. Demonically induce a “BLOODY-RED” violence among the people of the earth.
The god of war the task of the rider in red horse brings war and conflict. This rider didn’t need to bring war and destruction all he needed to do was “take PEACE from the earth”. Once this peace — God’s gift to man — was taken, men quickly rush in with war and destruction. Peace between men and among nations is a gift from God. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.”John 14:27 ASV. It is not the natural state of relations between men. And it was granted: This authority was granted to the horseman. This is, directly or indirectly, the judgment of God. That people should kill one another: Our modern age is marked by war and conflict. In the absence of PEACE: confusions, hatred, conflicts, lawlessness abound in families, institutions and governments and so brutalities and chaos will flood the streets.
The Rider of the Black Horse:
“And when he opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature saying, Come. And I saw, and behold, a black horse; and he that sat thereon had a balance in his hand. And I heard as it were a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, A measure of wheat for a shilling, and three measures of barley for a shilling; and the oil and the wine hurt thou not.” Revelation 6:5-6 ASV
The rider of the black horse was given the authority to inflict a great FOOD SHORTAGES around the world to the point that it will take an entire days wages for a normal person to purchase enough foods to eat on a single day . This food shortages will also cause DIVISIONS for the average person to extremely wealthy resulted to a slaves and elites social status. The luxury items of “not to hurt the wine and oil”, available to those who can afford them. The cost of the items as greatly ridiculous like the foods essentials which only mandate to purchase enough for a day would take to much violence. This FOODS SHORTAGES and out of control INFLATION will be used by the antichrist to create a global condition for single economy around the world and the implementation of the mark of the beast. The food shortages, famine, economic collapse, hunger and inflation will cause all to accept the mark of the beast in order to live. Rev. 13: 16-17.
“And he causeth all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free and the bond, that there be given them a mark on their right hand, or upon their forehead; and that no man should be able to buy or to sell, save he that hath the mark, even the name of the beast or the number of his name.” Revelation 13:16-17 ASV
The black horse brings scarcity and inequity. “A measure of wheat is about a quart of wheat and a penny”is a day’s wage for a laboring man. And what are laborers getting today? About forty dollars. So forty dollars for a quart of wheat. Diseases from the animals that will kill a big percentage of the world and devastations of farm and crops. Bird flu outbreak nears worst ever in US with 37 of chickens and turkeys million animals dead. The “SCALES” symbolized the need to carefully measure and ration food. This speaks of a time of scarcity. “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius”: These prices are about twelve times higher than normal. This describes “a time of famine when life will be reduced to the barest necessities.” (Walvoord)
The Rider of the Pale Horse:
“And when he opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, Come. And I saw, and behold, a pale horse: and he that sat upon him, his name was Death; and Hades followed with him. And there was given unto them authority over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with famine, and with death, and by the wild beasts of the earth.” Revelation 6:7-8 ASV
The opening of the fourth seal the apostle John was literally showing the incarnation of “DEATH” with “HADES” following after him. Isaiah 14. Death has given the authority to destroy one fourth of the world’s populations. Right now the population of the world is about 7.9 billion people, according to Rev. 6 during the first half of the tribulations, 1/4 of the world population will die from war, famine, violence , disease and being hunted by the beast of the earth. Basing purely on todays global populations 1.9 billion people will die in the space of 3 and half years tribulations. “A pale horse. And the name of him who sat on it was Death”: This last rider shows that there will be a tremendous death toll from the dictatorship, war, famine and other calamities described by the previous three horsemen.
This is a literal apocalyptic night mare. As the antichrist continues to rise in power even the wealthy people their wealth can’t protect them of the wrath of God. “They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be as an unclean thing; their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of Jehovah: they shall not satisfy their souls, neither fill their bowels; because it hath been the stumblingblock of their iniquity.” Ezekiel 7:19 ASV. No wonder Jesus said of this time: “For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be”. (Matthew 24:21). “Power was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill” : Power was given to the horseman, and given by God. Though all hell breaks loose on the earth, God is very much in control. Jesus the worthy one still holds the scroll and opens the seals.
These 4 riders are in leashed given some latitude but they don’t have pre reign at this point. But the day is coming when the presence of the HOLY SPIRIT in the CHURCH will be removed, this is what the beast has been waiting it will then be literal hell on earth. As the riders begin their rides had its share of persecutions, plagues and warfare all we see in the riders Jesus’s calls it the “BIRTH PAINS”.
This is likened to a pain of giving birth. As a woman who’s soon to give birth slowly, progressively feel the pain as it’s nearing it’s time to erupt. It’s not a one time pain and struggles, this tribulation is like the Birth pains this “mother soon to be” had to experience. It start from slow to worst pain as the riders inflict as it approaches the coming of Christ. But thank God we are not there yet for a little while; we are living by God’s grace and favor. Today is the day of salvation everyone who calls in the name of the Lord will be saved. Put on the whole armor of God now before it’s too late for you! Aim to be armored!
“And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplication; and they shall look unto me whom they have pierced; and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his first-born.” Zechariah 12:10 ASV
