Does God’s choice of a leader matters to you?

In every nation that’s on going an election, the burden is greater for one who’s gonna casts out his vote. The mind processes so much of facts and issues to the deserving candidate he’s preferred for. In this process many conflicting views could destruct anyone’s stands. Sometimes this goes with compromising your sacred vote for peer beliefs, self gain and money. How would one base his judgement on electing a leader more especially a president? Is there even any Bible preferences to consider in this electoral process?

God has a way of choosing a leader to govern and lead His people. His consistent in a requirements needed for this very important tasks. He used devoted man of God , the prophets in proclaiming to all the anointed kings of His choice. This is evident in the life of the kings, judges and the prophets in the Old Testaments. This choice of leadership is best seen in God’s discourses with Samuel over anointing Saul and David. Electoral processes in this modern era are so complex and prone to fraudulence. Choosing a leader comes with great political machinery and financial supports. It matters most for them the strength of the party, the power of the candidate but tends to never minding the moral side of politics.

In the Old Testament Bible times, the establishment of God’s chosen people is often bound up in the rise and fall of kings. As the anointed representative of the Lord, the king was seen as a mediator of the covenant between the Lord and his people. The nation’s prosperity and success is in agreement with the leader’s great dealings with God. Could this still be relevant today? Does God changed the qualifications of a leader? Was His choice of a leader still matters in this modern political system of leadership?

A tendency for man in doing electoral judgement is usually through seeing, hearing, watching and reading/ knowing the supplied facts which are limited in scope of great personality indicators of a leader. When God commanded Samuel to searched for a king, He’s very clear of what He said :

“But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at . People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7 NIV

How does man looks at things? How this outlook differ from the way God looks at the things in this world ? Man’s tendency of judgement is faulty, so one needs heavenly guidance in this major decisions. Man’s viewpoint is selfish as it is urge by personal motives. If God controlled man’s heart, his outlook in life is greatly influenced by heavenly things. All that matters in him are things that could glorify God which influenced even to every decision one has to cast out. And so one sees things through the eyes of God in this a Godly leader qualification is a must for him to choose.

The heart is what matters to the Lord for by it the person is judge. The purity of the heart will determine the desired outcomes of the good governance. What comes out from the leader’s mouth even during the campaign is the real motives within. There’s should be a spot of the Lord in one’s heart, this continues all along the reign. Outward appearance speaks of one’s general status in life, family connections and standing in the community. These are not necessary but rather cause failures and tragedy to the regime. Like Saul and David God chooses the weak, the poor, the hesitant, the cast out, the least in the eyes of all for that leader to fully defend on God’s power and not of his own.

Seek to see within a leader, things matters toGod!

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:8-9, 11 NIV

“But Samuel replied: “Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams. For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, he has rejected you as king.”1 Samuel 15:22-23

Saul became the anointed king over Israel but did not last long. Sin of disobedience engulfed him and this ruin his leadership. “Samuel said, “Although you were once small in your own eyes, did you not become the head of the tribes of Israel? The Lord anointed you king over Israel. And he sent you on a mission, saying, ‘Go and completely destroy those wicked people, the Amalekites; wage war against them until you have wiped them out.’ Why did you not obey the Lord? Why did you pounce on the plunder and do evil in the eyes of the Lord?” 1 Samuel 15:17-19

A good leader should only have allegiance to God. Never a single submission to the evils mandates should be in place in his administration. No amount of bad connections, interference, compromises to anyone and to any groups can influence his actions , decisions, and will but only to God and His words. This obedience to God is a quality only achieved by a Godly leader. A leader like king David who fully knew that he was put into leadership to stand for the people’s sake and welfare and not for selfish gain. David understood: “that the Lord had established him as king over Israel and had exalted his kingdom for the sake of his people Israel” (2 Samuel 5:12).

Was God’s qualities of a leader still prevalent today? Does it matters to you? What a wonderful world it would be to have this kind of leaders! ALL great men of God in the Bible were flawed. Why? Only God knows. They were flawed so that we would know that with God, the least of us could become the best of us. Remember this, a seeker could only see God’s things, considers heavenly truths if one is filled by the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:14 “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” For these people, Godly qualities and characteristics become a major factors in their choices. They seek for His approval and discernment. God’s presence should not be left out in this worldly political arena, and His people should be the Lights that will keep on shining this darken world of dirty politics. Will you take the challenge? Or been deceived already, conniving to the evils in this world! Take heed! Pray! The future of the nation is in your hands!

Jesus be our leader…
